Right then, that is it from this one-sided affair where Trinbago Knight Riders climb up to the second spot while Barbados Royals remains fourth. We have a little break in the Caribbean Premier League 2023 as the action will move to the South of Trinidad now. In the first match of that leg, St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots will take on Saint Lucia Kings on 9th September, Saturday at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT), but as you know you can join us early for all the build-up to that game. Until then, cheers and goodbye!
Kieron Pollard, the victorious skipper of Trinbago Knight Riders says that it was a total team effort that got them over the line. He feels that better performance and execution of plans have helped the side massively in a matter of 24 hours. Mentions that Pooran batted really well and from the first delivery he looked different and knowing his abilities they all knew that at the death over he could be as explosive as anyone in the world and it turned out good today. On travelling to the next venue he adds that nothing changes, as the main aim is to perform well rest, will take care of itself.
Rovman Powell, the captain of Barbados Royals says that 208 is a big total and reckons that they conceded 15-20 runs more as anything around 185-190 could have been under control. Adds that the crowd played a massive role as they supported their team with all their hearts and that gives them motivation. Congratulates Trinbago Knight Riders for the win. Says that the way Mayers batted was a positive for them and they would look to come back stronger in the next game.
Nicholas Pooran is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his magnificent century. He says he feels happy to be amongst runs again and he walked out with a positive mindset in this game, and the home crowd deserved something special and he feels delighted to have produced something special. Adds that he felt more responsible after the mix-up with Polly and he wanted to take it deep which helped in his favor. Closes by saying that he feels glad with the victory and so happy to climb upwards in the table with the crunch games coming their way.
Presentation Time...
Earlier in the game, after being forced to bat first, Trinbago Knight Riders posted a huge total on the board courtesy of a blistering hundred from Nicky P and some good contributions from Martin Guptill and Dre Russ. Holder was the pick of the bowlers for Barbados Royals with two wickets while Kyle Mayers, Qais Ahmad, and Rahkeem Cornwall chipped in with one each. Mayers showed some fight with a decent knock as well but lack of support from others meant that they faced another defeat.
Trinbago Knight Riders, on the other hand, will be extremely happy with their bowling effort as everyone chipped in and their fielding was absolutely brilliant. That made a huge difference because they were able to take their chances in this game. Akeal Hosein removed Rahkeem Cornwall in the third over which set the tone for them and they never looked back. The spin duo of Hosein and Waqar Salamkheil were the best of the lot picking up a couple of wickets each while Andre Russell, Ali Khan, and Sunil Narine got one wicket each to help them to a comfortable win.
Barbados Royals couldn't get to the start that wanted as they lost the centurion from the last game Rahkeem Cornwall quite early. However, Kyle Mayers looked in good touch and held one end while also scoring runs at a good rate, but none of the batters except him were able to show the same intent and lacked quality to make a game out of this one. Mayers got out on 70 and Jason Holder hit a few lusty blows in the end too, but it was too little too late by then as they ultimately fell short by 42 runs.
A comprehensive victory for Trinbago Knight Riders! After losing the last game, they came back like a top team to secure the two points in front of their home crowd. This was a brilliant all-round show from them as they outplayed their opponents in all three departments. A crucial win at a crucial stage of the season as they strengthen their position on the table while the inconsistency continues for Barbados Royals.
